Class of 2018

A life of a Pre-Med begins with a dream to one day wear the sacred white coat of a healer and have the title of MD following one's name. The journey to this dream is always a unique one varying from person to person. Let me tell you about how I have an Associates degree of Arts in Social and Behavioral Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in English. My goal has always been UCR, the moment when I stepped on the pavements of this university during my high school college visits. But my journey here was not straightforward. I began as a biology major in Santa Monica College, but fell in love with English literature during my first semester. But a part of me still loved the sciences and the future dream that I had previously mentioned. Thus my world was divided and unified by this dream. I was a dedicated student and when two years had passed I had acceptances into all of the UC campuses.

But I always knew in the back of my mind that Berkeley and UCLA would not be enough for me and that I needed to go to UCR. Thus, when I got the acceptance to UCR, I SIR'ed within 24 hrs knowing that I was returning back to my dream. Here at UCR, I lived as a bridge between two colleges, CHASS and CNAS. People's reactions were always a mix ranging from laughter to confusion when I told them proudly, "I am Pre-Med...but my major is English." But some of my closest friends arose from these unique moments. My journey has not been easy due to the heavy course load but I had the support of University Honors and several other programs. My work and my extracurricular activities peaked interests in both colleges. Science and English Professors were wowed and even surprised to hear me say that I am an English Major and Pre-Med. Their disbelief came from how passionate I was about each subject that I took here at UCR. All these things shaped my journey here at UCR and the future dream of the white coat.

I am truly proud to call UCR my Alma Mater and be an alumni!

Congratulations to the Class of 2018!
