You always hear the saying “follow your passion.” When I first came to UCR, I had no idea what I was passionate about. I felt lost. I think many students struggle with this concept. I started off as an Mechanical Engineering major for my first two and a half years, but ended up switching to Mathematics after realizing Engineering wasn’t for me. Math was something I had always been good at, but I never thought to major in. After making the switch, my classes became more interesting, as I felt more engaged in the classroom. As strange as it sounds, I developed a passion for Math. I think the only way to find out what you’re passionate about is through trial and error. I know many people find math difficult, and getting my degree in it, it only made sense to start a tutoring business. I think a better saying would be to “create your purpose,” rather than “find your passion.” I believe my purpose is to help people in any way possible.
